Content hacks every small business needs
The demand for content across your socials channels has levelled up over the past 12 months. With Covid-19 pushing more to online shopping and browsing, it has been vital that small businesses make themselves heard amongst the big giants like eBay and Amazon.
Small business owners have been churning out content at an exponential rate and it is safe to say, content burnout has hit so many business owners hard. So how do you keep your content fresh, engaging and not just posting for the sake of posting? Here are my top tips for ensuring you don’t get content burnout and you keep your audience engaged!
Understand Your Content Pillars
First off, let’s discuss what content pillars are. These are categories or topics you want your content to be based off. You can have as many as you like, but a good number is 3 to 5. Topics can include a promotion, lifestyle, tips, or more niche like social media marketing, blogging, advertising and so on. It is all about having pillars to suit your business.
Once these are nailed down, you can now look at what content and variety you will need for each pillar. Look at your customer personas - what content do they love? What platform do they love it on? These questions will allow you to devise a strong content strategy for your targeted audience.
Batch Create
This is the best way to ensure you have the right amount of content to keep your audience hooked, along with preventing a last-minute rush post. So you’ve content pillars, now let’s look at the type of content you want to use under these pillars. Start brainstorming ideas then do the fun bit - create!
For example, I like to put out a positive quote once a week, so I will batch create these for the month (sometimes two months in advance!). I then move on to video content and film as much as I can in a night, or over the course of a few evenings. You can then schedule and be on your merry way!
Getting creative making content is always a fun part!
Understand Your Platforms
With so many social media platforms, you may see some brands on all of them but that doesn’t mean you should be! This links with my first point in understanding your customer personas. Look at where your target audience is, what content they consume, when they are most active and ensure your content is tailored to those platforms.
Analyse & Assess
You can’t always get it right, so make sure you look at the statistics for the content you have created. Look at what worked, what got the most engagement and what content turned into sales. This should inspire your creativity for the next time you are batching your content.
Also, take it to the floor and ask your audience. What do they want to see? What do they want to know? (this is a great way to get active with video content too). There is no one better to ask than your target audience!
